Chat Connect Community friends

We believe having a chat can brighten your day and help keep communities connected by building social interactions and networks.

CHAT + CONNECT + COMMUNITY

BECOME PART OF THE CONVERSATION

OUR VISION

The Chatty Cafe initiative aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness by encouraging and creating opportunities for people to interact through conversation.

WHAT WE DO

The Chatty Cafe initiative addresses social isolation and loneliness, a worldwide epidemic, by  offering a very inexpensive and simple solution. Our simplicity is our “point of difference” – getting people to connect and chat in a range of social venues such as cafes, bars, college campuses, libraries, hospitals, community centers, retirement homes, sporting and recreation clubs – anywhere that people can safely and comfortably sit and talk, building social connections.

Chatty Cafe is a community focused and driven effort to get people chatting. Social venues are encouraged to sign up to provide a shared "Chatty table" where customers can sit if they are happy to talk to other customers and 'Have a Chat'.

A "Chatty table" creates a space for people to talk; whether it is for five minutes while you enjoy a drink, or an hour of good conversation. We’re not trying to build friendships – just simple interactions to combat loneliness and to just maybe have a big impact on someone’s day.

Although the aims of the initiative are to reduce loneliness and get people chatting, we have chosen not to use the word loneliness on any of the publicity. Our promotional material in the social venues is positive and focuses on bringing people of all ages and from all walks of life together. We want a "Chatty table" to be a place where everyone feels welcome.

We know that human interaction can have truly positive impacts on people; an interaction can make a person go from feeling ‘invisible to visible’ increasing self-worth, dignity and confidence. Talking to others can reduce stress levels, increase positivity, help people feel connected to their community, reduce physical health problems and put less strain on health services. We are passionate about having a human-centered approach as we develop and grow.
