OUR STORY
The Chatty Cafe initiative was founded in 2017 in the United Kingdom by Alex Hoskyn.
It was created in direct response to the social isolation felt by Alex as a new mom on leave from a very busy job. Alex had gone from numerous conversations each day to very few and found this a difficult transition. Alex spent time with her baby going to cafes and observed the number of people who sat at tables alone or others that sat together but didn’t seem to have much to say to each other.
These observations led Alex to believe that if cafes and other social venues offered a shared table where customers could choose to sit if they wanted to chat to other customers, then people may be interested in joining that table. And, so the Chatty Cafe concept was borne. A simple but truly beneficial initiative that is achieving wonderful impacts in the communities it serves.
There are now over 1,000 venues signed up in the UK. In 2019, it expanded into Australia and in late 2022, Chatty Cafe launched in the US. Check out the initiative in the UK and Australia!
